Both are suitable for autumn sowing

Unfortunately, we have now sold out of Broad Bean Aquadulce.

SHOP OPENING UPDATE

The Shop will continue to be open on Saturdays and Sundays 10.30 – 11.30 until the end of October, with the exception of the last Sunday (27th).

The last opening of the year will be Saturday 26th October. See here and noticeboards in the new year for news of our February re-opening.

From the Field Secretary...

Sidegate Allotment News 7         October 25

Update on thefts

We may have found the people responsible for this. Two men were seen loading a car and using the emergency key. We have now removed the key. Details were passed onto the police (photos, car registration). Inform the committee if you see something suspicious or someone on another’s plot.

Vandalism

There has been some damage to a plot at the end of Third Avenue. Along with overturned shelving some pallets had been set alight.

October 1st Changes

As many know, on this date we turn the taps off and can have bonfires (not Sundays and Mondays). Please ensure you keep to the council’s rules and check first that bonfires are free of wildlife, especially hedgehogs!

IAS Membership

£3.50 covers you for public liability until April. We are all required to take out this insurance, and this is the cheapest way.

IAS  Awards Evening

A free event for IAS members at 7.30, 25th October, at Gainsborough Labour club.

Shed News

As per Grahame’s notice, we are unable to offer potatoes next year, but hope to offer onions for spring planting. Saturday 25th October will be the last shed day of the year. We will reopen in February. We still have vacancies in running the shed and on the field committee. If you are interested in these, please get in touch.

Please contact me if you would like to reduce or increase your plot size in the future. If your contact details change, also let me know

Ipswich Allotment Society (IAS)

The IAHA was disbanded in the summer, and a new organisation, the IAS, was formed. All memberships are transferred to the new organisation.

POTATOES AND ONIONS

There will be no seed potatoes available through the shed this year. We will endeavour to post information about good value retail sources when stocks start to appear in the shops.

We have not yet secured onion sets for spring planting. We will post here if and when we do. It is likely that it will be a similar offering as this year, i.e. two varieties available for APRIL planting.
